Friday 30th August:

Morning / Lunch:

Today we’d like to invite you to join us for coffee and cake at the top of the Col de La Croix de Fer.

There are several ways to get there:
Sarah and I will be riding but it’s equally possible to get there via e-bike or car. The top of the Croix de Fer is a beautiful spot and although the café is quite small it’s worth it for the views up there (assuming good weather). There’s also great walking up there as well if you want to go up early or stay later.

So, if you don’t want to ride but would like to join us then let us know and we can arrange lifts / car share etc. It’ll take about 40 minutes to drive up there.

For those that would like to join us we’ll set off in 2 groups. One aiming to get there in around 2 hrs and another in about 3hrs.

Following the same decent from Vaujany we’ll turn right to be at the foot of the Croix de Fer. The climb itself is around 24km long, rises 1,170 m at an average gradient of 5%. However it contains some flat parts and even a couple of descents so the average is mis-leading.

The trick is to take your time, make sure you eat and drink on the way and most importantly, enjoy the amazing views on the route. Alpd d’Huez is more famous but the Cole de la Croix de Fer is our favourite climb in the area and if you only do one day’s cycling we recommend that you do this one.

After meeting at the top, we’ll cycle/drive back down to Lake Verney and again, either cycle back to Vaujany (for the brave) or arrange for lifts. If you’ve hired a bike it may be an idea to cycle on to Bourg d’Oisans and drop your bike there. We can then help arrange to have you picked up.

For non cyclists and those returning from the Croix de Fer we’ve again booked  tables at La Guinguette by Lac Verney from 1.30pm.

Evening:

We are going to eat at La Table de Fare from about 7.30pm onwards and we’d love to see you there.

From 9pm we’ll be joined by some other guests for a drink and some music.
